Should You Go On a Twinkie Junk Food Diet Too?

Professor Haub Lost Weight Eating This?

Professor Haub Lost Weight Eating This?

So did you see the story last week about the guy on a "Twinkie Diet"?

You can see the CNN story here: http://bit.ly/adqpGP

His crazy diet was mostly junk like Twinkies, Little Debbie snack cakes, powdered donuts and Doritos.

Believe it or not, the guy who did this experiment is a Professor of Nutrition at Kansas State.

And get this…

He lost weight.

And…

I can't believe I'm saying this.

His cholesterol profile improved!

My question to you is this…

What was your first impression when you saw this story?

I'm curious to know what you think about this little junk food experiment.

I'll share some of my thoughts later in the week.

I think you'll be surprised.

- Colin

P.S. I'll try and come up with a surprise gift for the first person that nails my biggest observation with this story before I reveal it later in the week.

So, how can we help you today?

The question was never asked nor did the professor say how he actually felt. I did not read, “I lost weight and my cholersterol is down and I feel great!!!!” His numbers did drop but he looked like he felt like poop.

I can’t believe that with eating all that sugar and carbs that his cholesterol levels did not get worse. Interesting observation that once he started to eat MEAT again the cholesterol started to go back up.

FYI: I made a 2nd interview request to Professor Haub this morning. I hope he gets back to me so I can chat with him directly about some of this.

Jane: Hey, you’re right. He doesn’t really look like he’s ready to run a marathon, does he?

Doug: Trust me, I had the same initial reaction.

Miles: GREAT observation. This is getting away from you specific point, but I mean think about it … you can lose weight and NOT be healthier. (Think cancer patients for example.)

No one has hit on my biggest take away from this yet.

Fingers crossed on getting an interview to you sometime soon…

I suspect that he went on some hard core cholesterol meds and some supplements in order to avoid serious HD problems.
Bottom line—his day may come—his future health may be seriously compromised.
I believe he is being paid big bucks by the manufacturer of these junk food products, and may feel that justifies the above :(

Perhaps he decided before doing the Twinkie diet to take cheat meals which block the fat and carbohydrate consumed?

You guys are making GREAT observations that I hadn’t even thought about.

Man, I got so LOCKED in on the one thing that stood out to me, that I missed some other possibilities.

Still … no one is on the same page as me yet. :-)
